Kendrapada: The tragic murder of 12 year old Rajkumar has sparked tension in Pattamundai with the Pattamundai Merchants’ Association protesting against the incident.
The Association had called for a shut-down of the area on Friday soon after the dead body of the boy was discovered. The shut-down, reportedly, will continue for the day.
The Association is demanding a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the family of Rajkumar and immediate arrest of the murderers. The BJD had also carried a rally at Tini Muhani in Kendrapada as a protest against the ghastly murder.
The Police has arrested the main accused Shib Prasad Rout aka Papu along with 5 others who have been identified as Sujit, Sai, Deepu and Ashok. Money seems to have been the main motive behind the crime. All the accused have confessed their crime. They said that they killed the child and dumped his body in the river after his mother expressed her inability to pay the demanded ransom of Rs 5 lakh.
Local people gheraoed the Pattamundai Police Station accusing the Police of negligence and delay in investigation. Three platoons of police force have been deployed in the region.
The boy’s mutilated dead body was found near Hansua River on Thursday. He was kidnapped while returning from school on March 4.
Meanwhile, Kendrapada MP Baijayant Panda has sought a high level inquiry into the case and trial in a fast track court. He has demanded exemplary action against the accused.
